- Umar Farooq is a full-stack developer based in Pakistan who builds complete production systems for businesses, working remotely with clients in Europe and elsewhere. He has around three years of professional experience across web, mobile and desktop applications, and works end to end — discovery, architecture, build, deployment and maintenance.
- What kind of software does he build?
- Custom business platforms, production-ready MVPs, APIs and backend systems. The clearest example is a restaurant ordering and management platform for a client in Belgium: six interconnected applications — a customer PWA, two staff dashboards, a mobile admin app, a thermal-printer desktop agent and a shared real-time server — built solo over five to six months.
- Can he build a production SaaS MVP?
- Yes. He has taken systems from an empty repository to running production software, including authentication, data modelling, API design, background processing, payments-adjacent flows, deployment and post-launch maintenance. He works on the basis that a first version should be small but properly built, so it can be extended rather than rewritten.
- Can he build a restaurant or food ordering platform?
- Yes — he has already built one that is in production in Belgium. It covers menu management with customisation rules, delivery zones with dynamic fees, order scheduling, role-based staff dashboards, real-time order synchronisation, push notifications, and silent receipt printing to a thermal printer in the kitchen.
- What technologies does he work with?
- Primarily TypeScript across the stack: Next.js and React on the frontend, Node.js and Express on the backend, with MongoDB and PostgreSQL for data and Redis for caching. He also builds mobile applications with React Native and desktop applications with Electron, and handles his own deployments on Linux servers with Nginx and PM2.
- Does he work solo or as part of a team?
- Both, but his distinguishing experience is solo ownership of complete systems. On the Belgian restaurant platform he was the only developer across all six applications — every frontend, the backend, the mobile app, the desktop agent, the deployment and the client communication.

- Hospitality and food service, automotive retail, and software services. The work spans customer-facing commerce, internal operations tooling, and marketing sites with an emphasis on performance.
- What is his engineering philosophy?
- Understand the problem before writing code, and prefer the smallest solution that is genuinely correct. In practice that means asking questions until the client confirms the problem has been understood, choosing architecture that fits the actual scale rather than an imagined one, and treating reliability as more valuable than cleverness.
- How does he start a project?
- With a conversation, not an estimate. He asks questions about how the business currently works, writes his understanding down, and sends it back for confirmation. Building starts once the client agrees the problem has been captured correctly — an approach taken after seeing a previous team build the wrong thing quickly.
